     Rocket motor test

PropulsionThe Spacefleet EARL project has made more progress. Last week, we ran a test of the SRM-120, a 120 millimetre diameter solid-propellant rocket motor

The SRM-120 is designed to provide 800kg thrust for a minimum of 6 seconds. With an advance propellant formula, that can be increased to around 9 seconds. The test last week was successful, but there was an escape of hot gas, which reduced the thrust, in the final 1-second period of the burn. A technical fix for that problem has been decided upon, and there will be another test next week. The motor was not damaged by the fault.

The EARL-D4 hull is nearly finished, and after satisfactory completion of the rocket motor tests, we are expecting a first test flight, early next year.
